Teaching Older Generations Blog Post Credit: McDowell Do you have anything to teach to your grandparents and parents? I do have as follows:
I can already see my Mom’s happy face if I teach her how to play the piano. She really wants to learn how to play and I want to teach her because when we jam at night, she can be the pianist while I play the drums and my dad plays the guitar. That means we would have a mini band at home. I’m sure that my Dad would love it if I will teach him how to play the drums. He has been requesting me to teach him how to play the drums since I started studying in Yamaha Music School (YMS). As an appreciation of his effort in teaching me how to play the guitar, I should really share with him what I learned at YMS. Now I’m enjoying playing the guitar at church and at prayer meetings. For my Grandpa, I want to teach him how to play computer games and fly a RC helicopter. First of all I want to teach him how to play educational games so that it would stir up his brain and give him more fun and knowledge. I also want to teach him how to fly the RC helicopter so that we can play together around our place. That can be good physical exercise for him too. My Grandma would surely love it if I would l teach her how to use Facebook and Internet. By learning how to use Facebook, she will be able to connect with her children and with her siblings who live in different countries. I would also teach her how to use the Internet to search for different recipes and do online shopping. I do hope I can do these teachings very soon. How about you? do you have any plan to teach older generations? I would love to hear your thoughts.

LIFE IN AFRICABlog Post Credit: Jueun Cape Verde – Known as República de Cabo Verde In our Social Studies class, we are learning about African countries and making class presentations. Recently, I researched and presented about Cape Verde which is located in West Africa. I researched about its geographical features, history, food, festivals, climate and culture. While I was researching about this country, I learned about beautiful places to visit in Cape Verde which I will write about in this post. You may consider these places visiting in the future.
These are these nice places that you can visit: Santiago Island, Fogo Island, and Sal Island. First, let’s see the beauty of Santiago. Santiago is an island which is a volcanic archipelago off West Africa. It’s known for its beaches and slave trade. It’s town called Cidade Velha was an important Portuguese colonial outpost. Pillory Square features an ornate marble pillar where slaves were once shackled. The ruined 16th-century Royal Fortress of São Felipe overlooks the town. It’s a nice place to visit because it is a very important part of Cape Verde’s history. The next place is Fogo Island. The name Fogo means ‘fire’ in Portuguese. Fogo volcano first erupted out of the Atlantic 100,000 years ago and has been an active volcano ever since. The most recent eruption was in 1995. Fogo is a nice place to visit because there is an area where you can climb to see the volcano more closely. Sal is another island in Cape Verde. There is a place here called Pedra de Lume which is a site of a salt mine in a crater of an extinct volcano. The name Sal is Portuguese for salt. The island was discovered on December 3, 1460 and named Llana until salt deposits were found at the end of the 18th century. Sal is geologically oldest island in Cape Verde, formed 50 million years ago during the eruption of a volcano which is now inactive. Santa Maria is situated in the southern part of the island municipality of which has recently became a fishing and touristic city. Santa Maria also has a couple of bars and a Disco house with pirate ship sticking out of its roof! Cool right? Well, here are the credits for the information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sal,_Cape_Verde https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santiago,_Cape_Verde https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fogo,_Cape_Verde

I made this video about YAPPY using Biteable for Kathleen's post about 'Get Creative with Digital Citizenship'.
IF I COULD IMPROVE OUR SCHOOL, THESE ARE THE THINGS I WILL DO First, I will construct a good canteen and hire someone who can offer variety of good food for the students. The new canteen would be spacious for the children to be able to sit comfortably with each other in large tables. It would also have a place where the children can wash their hands before eating and with a drinking fountain which has clean and filtered water. There should also be a place for fresh fruits, milk shakes and smoothies. Image Credit: Google I will also construct a big Music Room and buy instruments that are missing such as drums, violin, one more piano and more guitars because most of them are old, out of tune and broken. I would also buy some flutes for students who are enthusiastic to learn playing the flute. Image Credit: Google I will also make the PE room bigger so that we can do indoor games and exercises especially during rainy days. I will also build a storage room for the sports materials such as basketballs, soccer balls, skipping ropes, stop watches, gloves, rackets, etc. It will also have a locker room for students to keep their PE clothes, shoes and personal sport gadgets . Finally, I will construct a spacious parking space for parents who need to bring and pick up their children from school. The parking lot should be big enough and have a connection to a covered walkway going to the school building which will be helpful during very hot days and rainy days. Image credit: Google
WHAT DO I WANT TO DO ONCE I LEAVE SCHOOL?Image Credits: Image 1, Image 2, Image 3 After my schooling, I want to be an entrepreneur. Do you know what it is? Well, I’ll tell you. An entrepreneur is someone who operates his own business using his own money with big goals in mind. An entrepreneur is highly motivated, full of energy and enthusiasm in managing his own business.
I want to run my own hotel business in our place in Bohol, Philippines. I can start with a three-floored building with many rooms. At the first floor would be shops, restaurants and my own coffee shop. There would be two or three receptionists, two cooks, three waiters, a bellboy and two security guards. There would also be a music room or studio for me to be able to practice my drums, guitar and piano. I can also rent this studio for music enthusiasts who want to do some jamming or even recording. When my business has become successful and I have more than enough earnings, I will help those children who are poor but want to go to school. I really want to help them have a bright future that they really deserve to have. I just hope that I will be able to fulfill this dream because I know that I still have a really very long way to go and a lot of steps to follow. May all the luck and good blessings be upon me. MY SCHOOL'S GLEE CLUB
We have a Glee Club in our school which is composed of Grade 1-6 students who love to sing and have the voices to sing. I joined Glee Club since I was in Grade 1. I am therefore in the 6th year now in this Club. I love this club because my friends are there and we make many people happy every time we perform.
We usually perform on AIT Graduation Days (i.e., Asian Institute of Technology's Masters and Doctoral Students Graduation Ceremony) and on some special occasions. When we perform during AIT Graduation Day, they broadcast our performance live around the world that's why any one from any country with Internet can watch our performance. Over the years in Glee Club, I have developed my singing talent and improved my voice. I have also learned to mingle with different students from other grades. Thus, I gained friends by being a member of the Glee Club. One performance which has been memorable for me was when I played the beat box instead of singing which made our performance more lively. I am also excited with our upcoming choral performance in another school. Probably hundreds of people will watch us. I expect that we are going to do a good job once again and impress our audience especially our parents who will be proud of us. My Ideal School My ideal school is basically a fun school which will have two or three giant science and robotics labs. In these labs, students will be able to learn and create brand new robots and new technological products. They will also learn about the science of living things and non-living thing in a more exciting way through experiments in the labs. They will learn about life and the looks of microscopic cells through powerful microscopes. In another area of my ideal school there will be lots and lots of fun sports such as swimming, tennis, baseball, and American football. There will be different sports clubs where students will learn to work together as a team,. Players will have to think about strategies and execute them together. These sports will also be a fun and easy way to learn sportsmanship and teamwork. I would love to be part of the sports club. Aside from sports, my ideal school will also have a huge music room with complete musical instruments and powerful sound systems and will hold lots of people. Image Credit: Wikimedia In my ideal school, there will also be a big computer lab. The computers in the lab would be brand new computers that have really fast internet speed and have lots of spaces for the students to store their stuff. In that case the students would be able to have fun using the computers and learn stuff such as Java Script, coding, HTML and many more. That also means that the students would also be able to do group projects very quickly and communicate easily. Image Credit: Wikimedia That's my ideal school. Maybe it already exists in developed countries. I wish that one day I will be able to go to this kind of school.
MY AMAZING VACATIONImage Credits: (i) Seaworld, Flickr (ii) Disneyland, Flickr (iii) Hollywood, Pixabay (iv) Hollywood Walk of Fame, Pixabay (v) Universal Studios, Flickr (vi) The Golden Gate Bridge, Pixabay (vii) Welcome Las Vegas, Pixabay (viii) The Venetian Resort Hotel, Pixabay (ix) Mt. Charleston, Pixabay (x) Willis Tower, Pixabay When I was 8 years old, my parents and I went for a vacation to America. Our first stop was Los Angeles where my Aunt and her family live. The first place we visited was Sea World in San Diego. We watched there the killer whales dancing and performing tricks as well as many other sea animals. We also enjoyed the very beautiful Christmas decorations especially the giant Christmas tree. They brought us, next, to the place they knew I would enjoy, which was Disneyland. My cousins and I enjoyed playing in a boat maneuvered by Mickey with Donald Duck and Goofy as crew. We also rode on a roller coaster which really made me dizzy! I also enjoyed the long parade of all Disney characters. The place was really amazing and I had lots and lots of fun that day. After that, we went to Hollywood and walked in the Hollywood Walk of Fame where the names of many famous actors and actresses are printed. Later, we went to the Universal Studios. There we went into a Minion shop and took lots of pictures in front of King Kong, Rock café and Jurassic Park.
We then rode a train to San Francisco where we visited my Grandmother and her family who toured us around the city especially to Golden Gate Bridge and Pier 39. We then proceeded to visit my Uncle and his family in Las Vegas. There we walked around the beautiful Las Vegas Strip where the MGM Grand is. It is where all the boxing matches and big concerts take place. The Strip was a long walk with cool places such as The Venetian Resort Hotel, the mini Paris, the dancing fountains, but the mini New York was the best for me because that was where all the giant M&M and Hershey’s shops were. We also climbed Mt. Charleston where I touched and saw snow for the first time in my life. There we played in the snow, went snowboarding and took a lot of pictures. The last place we visited was Chicago where my other Aunt and her family live. There we visited Willis Tower where we stepped on a glass with all tall buildings below us. That was pretty scary for me. We drove around Chicago and saw Lake Michigan which was completely frozen. On the next day, we went shopping at a mall which was right next to the place I really wanted to go, LEGO LAND! There was giant face of Albert Einstein which was completely made of Lego and so many set-ups all made of Lego blocks. As a souvenir, we bought a Lego star wars set which I immediately assembled when we returned home. Aside from the many wonderful places we saw, it was so nice to see my relatives especially my cousins whom I missed so much. We played a lot knowing that it will take time to see each other again. If you wish to have a vacation in the places I visited, you may check on these sites to see where best to go: http://www.planetware.com/tourist-attractions/nevada-usnv.htm http://www.planetware.com/tourist-attractions-/los-angeles-us-ca-la.htm AN ENCOUNTER WITH A VERY FRIENDLY DOGGY NAMED KOBE Three years ago, my family and I went for a vacation to Chicago. We visited my Aunt’s family and there I met their big dog pet Kobe, a German-shepherd, who is a dear member of their family. Though he did not know me yet, just with the introduction of my Aunt that we were members of the family, he immediately greeted me with his licks as if he had known me for a long period of time. He is a huge dog, almost as tall as me. He looks scary as if he can eat me. But deep inside that big body is a friendly, sweet and loving creature who loves to cuddle and play. His fur is brownish, blackish and reddish, so soft to touch. His ears are pointed and always on the look-out. His eyes are large and transparent and look so smartly and intelligently. I like him very much because he was very playful. When we played around their house in a snowboard in the midst of heavy snow, he chased me around and around their yard. This charming dog would always follow and cuddle with me. When I wake up in the morning and head downstairs, he would immediately greet me. He would stay and sit with me on the couch while I watched TV. I would like to dedicate a short poem to this lovely creature: A dog so cute and friendly
So big, so tall, and so healthy Huggable, kissable and cuddly An instant pet I love so dearly. His fur is brown, blackish and reddish Canny and smart with eyes so bluish I will never ever forget you big doggy Kobe is the name I will remember so vividly. If you want to know more about German shepherds, you can visit these sites: http://dogtime.com/dog-breeds/german-shepherd-dog#/slide/1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGoPUw0YBAg Find an image or piece of music. The Iowa, the finest ship I’ve ever heard. The best of the best I’ve ever seen and the biggest of them all. She carries more than a hundred brave men. Into battle they sailed day and night, She sailed through shark infested waters and rocky shores, With meanest arsenal that you wouldn’t want to play with. She’ll mow you down as soon as she’ll look at you. Well, she’s colored gray and real large and she sits on the water. You might ask is the Iowa good or nice? Well, she doesn’t bite, so don’t go away! I wonder how it is like living onboard the ship. I guess it is nice being afloat. Well it’s time to quote That Iowa is the best! But we have to say goodbye because we’re on a quest Adios amigos! |
